Hideaway Cottages (www.hideawaycottages.com, 707-942-4108, 1412 Fairway, Calistoga, CA 94515; $$–$$$$). These 17 units are comfy but utilitarian, and all are set amid tall, mature trees on 2 acres on a quiet residential street close to Lincoln Avenue restaurants and shops. It’s a good spot if you’re planning an extended stay. Three deluxe cottages are available, and one of the cottages can accommodate groups of four or six. Air-conditioning and televisions are standard, and most units have kitchenettes.
Mount View Hotel (www.mountviewhotel.com, 707-942-6877, 800-816-6877, 1457 Lincoln Avenue, Calistoga, CA 94515; $$$–$$$$). Restored mission revival and on the National Register of Historic Places, this elegant lodge was originally a European-style hotel, built in 1917. There are 29 units and three cottages, including nine luxurious suites. It’s in the heart of Calistoga shopping and dining. The hotel has its own superb spa, and others are just a step away.
Pink Mansion (www.pinkmansion.com, 707-942-0558, 800-238-7465, 1415 Foothill Boulevard, Calistoga, CA 94515; $$$–$$$$). Postcard views of Napa Valley and lush forests await visitors who stay at this 1875 Victorian. The home’s pink exterior will catch your attention, while the flowers, rare plants, and exotic palms will hold your interest. The inn features two rooms and four suites with fireplaces. There is also a 1,000-square-foot cottage with a loft and fireplace. The inn also has an indoor pool. Wine and cheese are available to cap off the afternoon.
Solage (www.solage.aubergeresorts.com, 707-266-7531, 866-942-7442, 755 Silverado Trail, Calistoga, CA 94515; $$$$). This is one of the most cutting-edge of the spa retreats in Napa Valley. A 22-acre complex includes 89 accommodations, from one-room studios to deluxe suites, as well as the Spa Solage and Solbar (see entry under Restaurants). The hip bistro offers healthful entrées as well as rich comfort food. Breakfasts are not part of the room rate, but the rate does include decadent dishes such as lemon-ricotta pancakes. This is a green resort, which means all the water is recycled and all the cleaning products are environmentally friendly. Solage Calistoga offers great views of the Palisades and the Mayacamas mountains.
