Jenkins wasted no time hailing them when they arrived a few light minutes away from Saturn. Jim sighed before standing up to take the call in the ready room. At the door, he turned. "Keep an eye out for the Fagare. They’ll follow us."

He sat down and took a breath to compose himself before answering Jenkins. The steady whisper of the Resolve's ventilation system had a different quality to it than the space station. He could feel every creak and moan of the ship. It settled him. Whether it was his ancestry or something else, Jim belonged on the ship and never wanted to leave it again.

Even on the smaller holographic screen in here, Jenkin's face loomed larger than life. "Glad to have you back, Bromley,” the military man said. “That was some quick thinking on the station. You and your team will make a fine addition to our crew."

"Back up a minute. What happened?” Jim fought the urge to stand as he yelled at the floating image. “Why did they back off?"

The General grinned. "Your threat. Obviously, you couldn't carry it out, but they didn't know we couldn't either."

"How did you know about that? It was a direct line to Fagare High Command. You couldn't have hacked it." Jim stared as Jenkins sat there, without speaking. Realization washed over Jim. He muted the call and stuck his head back onto the bridge. "Check yourselves for bugs. They are spying on us." He hitched his thumb behind him, in the general direction of the other ship.

Returning to the General, Jim said, "Now what was that other part?"

"Obviously, you'll join us. After your spectacular departure, there's no point in pretending you don't exist anymore. These ships will make quite the difference against the enemies of the United States."

"You want to attack people?" This time, Jim did stand. "The real threat is out there. We have to stop Krazirk."

"Let him come. He'll be no match for two ships. In the mean time, you could be making a difference at home." The corners of Jenkins's mouth curled downwards just enough to give the barest hint of a frown. It was the first display of emotion Jim had ever seen from the man.

"I watched him take out an entire fleet of ships better prepared and better trained than you or me,

“ Jim explained. “We have to find him and catch him unawares. I've been lucky three times now. Sooner or later, that luck's going to run out."

"Captain," Melissa yelled out. "They are sending over a shuttle."

"Look, Bromley,” Jenkins said. “I wanted to do this the easy way, but you're not leaving me any choice. Prepare to be boarded."

Jim didn't bother cutting the channel. The ship picked up on his feelings and ended the call for him. "Chris, fire a warning shot,” Jim barked, striding into the bridge. “But don't hit them unless we have to. Melissa, Bobby, get us out of here. Got any ideas where we should go?" He directed that question to Fike and Brua.
