There are many ways to extend an invitation to a potential member. Whether you call someone on the phone, invite her in person or send an email, there are a few approaches that work well. They are general in nature, short and sweet with just enough of a teaser to pique her curiosity.

There are four sections to the invitation: the Lead, the Detail, the Ask, and the Bring-Along.

The Lead

This is your opening line. It says what you’re trying to accomplish in one simple sentence.

• “I’m hosting an evening for women where we’ll get together and explore interesting issues.”

• “I’m starting a group for women where we’ll learn to live our lives to the fullest.”

• “I’m hosting a parenting group to discuss issues relating to moms and their kids.”

• “I’m interested in starting a women’s group where we might learn some new things about ourselves and each other.”

• “I’m gathering a group of women that want to grow and develop a stronger spiritual life.”

• “I’m bringing together a group of women who are looking to add more fun into their lives.”

• “I’m starting a ‘women only’ book club.”
