Concerns and Calls

“This is ridiculous,” Big CC said. He was in the interrogation room again and was not pleased. However, this time some donuts had been provided for him. The four investigators were trying to toe the line between dealing with a murder suspect and being polite to the brother of the chief, who they were certain to see again and again.

“If you don’t want to get questioned by the police, don’t let people get murdered in your apartment,” said Amy.

Big CC gave her a dirty look.

“We don’t like accusing you any more than you like being accused,” Peters said awkwardly. “But it’s our job to look at all possible suspects.”

“I told you about Finn. Didn’t that help?” asked Big CC. “And I checked and saw that nothing was missing from my house, so you know robbery wasn’t a motive. Doesn’t that help too?”

“Yes. And we really appreciate that,” said Heather. “Finn is a solid suspect now. But we do have more questions for you before we can completely dismiss you as a suspect too.”

“I’m never letting anyone stay with me again,” Big CC said. “It’s too much trouble. I should never have tried to help him out.”

“Were there any special reasons why you did help him out?” asked Ryan. “Did he help you with a job? Or did you owe him a favor?”

“Is your subtext did something go wrong that would give me a motive for murder?” asked Big CC, crossing his arms. “Well, the answer to that is no. Grizz was a friend, but not someone I knew extremely well. We didn’t work together. There was nothing that would make me want to kill him. I guess the reason why I let him stay was because I knew he was in trouble. He shouldn’t have to spend money on a hotel when his problem was that he owed someone money. I thought I was doing a nice thing. I wanted to be the good guy for a change.”

“Meaning you’re not always a good guy?” Amy pressed.

“I admit to nothing,” Big CC said before making a zipping motion across his lips.

“Let’s calm down,” Heather said. “Why doesn’t everyone take a deep breath and have a donut? And then we can consider other suspects. Big CC, I think you might be able to help us with this.”

Big CC picked up a donut and took several bites before saying, “I don’t mind helping you find the real killer. So what do you want to know that could help you find other suspects?”

“Ryan found a blond hair in your living room,” said Heather as the others took donuts as well as listened to her attempt to get more information out of Big CC. “We’re trying to determine if it’s the killer’s hair or if it could have been left by a visitor that was there before the murder.”

Big CC thought about it. “How long was the hair?”

“About medium length,” said Ryan. “It could have been male or female depending on their hairstyle. It’s much longer than yours.
