One part of my brain was telling me, “Fuck these lying mutherfuckers, fuck these Afghan Army pieces of shit who won’t fight for their own fucking country, and fuck my boss for telling me I have to wait to be shot at before I can protect my Marines, who I love like my little brothers. This is fucking war, and as a Marine officer, it’s my job to kill pieces of shit and make sure that a bullet doesn’t hit one of my 120 little brothers. If that means I kill this asshole who keeps peeking around a corner, then so be it. If I’m wrong, and he was just a nice guy being nosy, it’s a tragedy of war, but I’ll be god dammed if the biggest tragedy of this war is my little fucking brother.”
