The study says, “When people experience a subjective feeling of fluency while evaluating a stimulus, they evaluate the target stimulus more favorably.” We won’t likely be using decimal points, but we can still use this concept. I recommend making your targets clean, familiar numbers. For exercise reps, once the number gets to ten or higher, use an increment of five (10, 15, 20, 25, etc.). These are the numbers and amounts we’re most familiar with, which should lead to easier processing and remembering. If you really want to or have a reason to aim for 27 reps or 18 minutes, then do so, but otherwise, use numbers like these. (If a number is smaller than 10—such as one pull-up—that’s still okay.)
