Khaly and Chaith crouched behind a far building outside the compound.

“This defiantly has a different feel during the day, with people moving about and vehicles parked in the lot,” Chaith said as he squirmed uncontrollably. “My original assessment of this place was wrong. It’s obvious this is where the Guild and the sisters work.”

“What is wrong with you?” Khaly furrowed her brow.

“I have to go to the bathroom…badly.”

“You shouldn’t have eaten five of those quowntas.”

“I was thirsty.”

“Well, now you’ll have to wait for the sun to set.” She tried her best to prevent a smile from forming.

“Forget that. We still have three hours.” He promptly scurried away and relieved himself once out of earshot.

Few people walked about. In the sweltering heat, Khaly couldn’t tell who the Guild members were because no one wore cloaks. She peeked around the corner at the compound where the man from the market had disappeared.

Chaith dropped down next to her.

“Better?” She asked without turning.

“Yup, any movement?”

“Not really, there’s this one guy who seems to be patrolling but he never follows the same path. He’s just kind of wandering.”

“Immoritian?”

“No, it’s still light out and this guy still has enough of a pattern to his walking that he wouldn’t be one.”

Khaly rested her head on Chaith’s shoulder. In the silence her mind drifted to Bancroft and the fuzzy images Neshula sent to her. Seeing through Orantheio’s eyes was odd and disorientating. It bothered her that she couldn’t see more, but the process had left her with a pounding headache and Neshula didn’t seem too energetic after it either. The transfer of images in that way must be a difficult task for the tiny dragon.

Jahallah described what it was like to have Neshula pass images onto her, but it was never through another’s perspective and always through their own. That transfer didn’t seem to bother Neshula as much.

Chaith nudged Khaly, pulling her from her thoughts. The sun had started its descent and they needed to be on their way. They stood in unison, keeping close to the building. Khaly peeked around the corner once again, signaling to Chaith that the area was clear. They stayed low as they ran across the street toward the buildings in the compound. There was a fence surrounding them, and the gate was closed tight. The building next to the gate was empty.

Khaly studied the keypad.

“What’s wrong?” Chaith kept his back to her, keeping watch.

“I don’t have any of my tools with me. They’re all at the bottom of Crehsh Ocean.”

“So you can’t open it?”

“I didn’t say that. It’ll just take me a little—”

“Khaly, either get it open now or we climb.”

Khaly furrowed her brow at his drastic change in tone.

“What’s—”

“We have to go, now.” He grabbed her arm, dragging her away from the gate.

Khaly looked back. A horde of immoritian was heading their way. They were fast–paced, like starving animals spotting their first meal in years.

“Dear gods!”

As they ran, Chaith removed his flimsy shirt and tossed it up onto the top of the fence.
