Chapter Eight

JOSH WASN'T ENTIRELY sure whether it was a good thing or a bad thing that his mum's version of talking once they'd gotten back to the house was a one-on-one interrogation, rather than a group discussion. Given that he and Damian needed to be on the road within an hour for the return journey to London, Josh was the first to be summoned. For some reason, despite the fact that Emily clearly wasn't talking to him, Hawk had still returned with them to the house. He seemed to be under the misapprehension that Emily was going to look past his wandering hands and forgive him. Josh knew his sister though. After the initial tears, she was well on her way to being furious. Once she'd gotten the discussion with their mum out of the way, no doubt Hawk would be next. Hawk might think she was in the bathroom crying but Josh would have laid odds on her actually planning her dumping speech. It was a shame he wasn't going to be around to witness it, but then, there'd probably been enough drama for one day.

He glared at Hawk on the way to the front room, trying to communicate through his expression alone that he needed to keep his dirty hands off Damian in his absence. The big lug simply smirked at him. God only knows what Emily had ever seen in him. He offered a tight smile to Damian and then followed his mum to his doom.

She led him into the front room, closed the door firmly, and then stood with her hands on her hips and looked at him. He wilted under the intense stare, caving after less than ten seconds. "Get it over with, please."

"I'm disappointed in you, Joshua Andrew Keating."

He winced. Not only was she full-naming him, but the words themselves stung. He couldn't remember her ever expressing disappointment in him before. He opened his mouth to defend himself, but she held a hand up before he could speak. "And before you jump to conclusions, I'm not disappointed in you because you make adult films. As long as they're above board and everything is safe and you're not being corrupted by some sleazy producer, then you're an adult and you can do whatever you want. You know your father and I have always been very open with things like that. We've watched porn."

Josh couldn't help it. He covered his ears with his hands. He'd rather his parents disowned him than discussed their porn-watching habits with him. There were certain things he never wanted to think about when it came to his parents. Their sex life was one of them. "Please don't. I don't want to know."

His mum stepped forward, yanking on his wrist so that he was forced to take his hands away. "I'm disappointed in you because you lied. For years, Josh. That hurts. It really does. What made you feel like you couldn't tell us?"

"I don't know." He was being honest. He really didn't know.
