I don’t like the floor, though.

Too visible, I hunch, I scuttle,

a prey to shoes and vacuums,

not to mention whisks.

If you come across me suddenly

you scream: Too many legs,

or is it the eight red eyes,

the glossy blob of abdomen?

Drop of thumb’s blood, popped grape:

that’s what you’d aim for.

Though it’s bad luck to kill me.

Come to terms:

before you were, I am.

I arrange the rain,

I take harsh care

and while you sleep

I hover, the first grandmother.

I trap your nightmares in my net,

eat the seeds of your fears for you,

suck out their ink
