July 17, 1836, It results in the War Department release of secret orders for Major John Charles Fremont to take an Army force to Sangha and establish Federal Control over the territory.

Three days later, a Free State source in the War Department leaks a copy of the orders to Danny Harper. Because he is under increasing scrutiny by the War Department, and fearful that his mail is being opened, Harper rides to Baltimore and sends one message by Pony Express, and another by clipper ship to Governor Clark. The message describes the planned Fremont excursion.
