TIP: Use low shutter speed for night shots to attract more light to the sensor. For running objects, e.g. an animal or a car, select high sputter speed (above 1/500) in order to freeze and capture the motion. High shutter speed is usually applied in the following genres: Sports, Street Photography, Event or Wildlife Photography and Photojournalism.

ISO speed setting

ISO represents the camera’s sensitivity of your camera’s sensor to the light. The smaller the ISO number is, the smaller the sensitivity. If, for example, we take a photo with ISO 100 and another one with ISO 800 keeping all the other settings the same, the second photograph will be brighter. A high ISO value adds “noise” (undesirable grain) to the photograph, which affects the picture quality.

TIP: Use the ISO setting in Auto mode. It is automatically adjusted according to the light conditions. When you gain experience, use high ISO speed for dark, cloudy days or at night (the highest available in your camera) and low ISO speed for bright, sunny days.
