Chapter 14

A small vortex of energy suddenly appeared near the planet Mars. A second later the Ice Dragon flew out of the vortex's center and stopped a few kilometers away from it. The dragon looked around the area as the vortex collapsed and disappeared to nothingness. Vicky saw the small red planet close by and let out a sigh of relief. She didn't know the exact coordinates to this system. She could have ended up in another part of the galaxy. Continuing to scan the area, she started to get worried. “The other dragons are not here,” she said to the voice. “Could they have gone to a different system?”

“It is a good possibility. You can try and scan for their energy signatures.”

“Good idea. We've got to find out what happened to them.” Vicky changed her scan to look for the dragon's energy signatures. Looking out toward the outer planets, she was horrified to see the Drakkaune fleet coming her way. “My god!” she gasped. “Could the Drakkaunes have already destroyed them?”

“No. The scanners are picking up their energy signatures near the fifth planet.”

Vicky looked toward Jupiter and found their energy signatures on one of its moons. She felt uneasy as she remembered that her dad had died on one of those dreadful moons. She put her fears aside and said, “I see them, but why are their energy signatures so faint?”

“They were in a battle with the Drakkaunes. The Drakkaunes’ ships had far more firepower than they were expecting. They were all hit by a barrage of fire and crashed on that moon.”

“How do you know that?”

“After I found their energy signatures, I linked to their computers, and they downloaded the information to me.”

“Are they badly damaged?”

“No. Their shields repelled most of the energy from the attack, but in doing so, most of their power had to be diverted into the shields. That is why they are low on power.”

“How can they recharge their power?”

“Only time can recharge their power.”

“Unfortunately, we don't have the time to wait. If you are in communication with the dragons, can you let me talk to Keith?”

“Yes, but Keith is still unconscious. He will not be able to hear you.”

“Just patch me in.”

“You are now patched in to the Sky Dragon.”

“Thanks.” She then whispered, “Keith, you need to get up now. The Earth is counting on you.”

There was no response.

Then she tried again, but this time not so gentle. “Damn it, Keith, you need to get up now!”

“Give me five more minutes. I'm so tired.”

“You don't have five minutes. You have to get up now.”

“Okay, I'm up… where am I?”

“You're on one of Jupiter's moons. Do you remember what happened to you?”

“Yes, I remember now. Vicky, is that you?”

“Yes, it is.”

“Where are you, and how did you get out here?”

“That's not important right now. Can you move?”

“What's the use? Without the Forest Dragon, we don't stand a chance against the Drakkaunes.”

“Pull yourself together, Keith, and meet me on Phobos. I have a surprise for you.
