They have decided to only run 1/8th mile racing now as the track is becoming more dangerous, due to a large drainpipe which runs across under the track just after the 1/8th mile, causing it to dip, so it gets pretty hairy after that. They have tried to sort it out, but the dip keeps returning.

But even so, I beat Bazz in two races and set a new Pro Comp record! 5.40/134 on the 1/8 mile. Once again, I am generating a lot of local publicity for the sport - which is good, as we need all the publicity we can get for the club. Had a hair raising ride though, the car took off over the bump and bounced, so much so, that by the time I had managed to stop at the end, my seatbelts that are attached to the bottom rail under my seat had worn through, the actual chassis was hitting the ground with every bounce! I had a hard job keeping the front wheels straight, at the same time as ‘deploying’ the ‘chute (hey - that sounds like I know what I‘m talking about!).

I haven’t kept the diary going for the rest of the season, as I have been too busy. If the car is running well, it means I spend more time racing at each meeting and not so much time sitting in the van, which means I don’t have time to get the diary out. However, looking back at articles written about me, I have had a very good season.

Another highlight of the season was setting a low time of 7.33/194mph at Santa Pod over the August bank holiday when I beat Mickey Naylor in the finals.

Then at the September meeting I ran my best of 7.31/196mph, which equalled the fastest speed Gerry Andrews set in ‘75, but lost out to Krister Johannson, who ran 7.25/190mph
