We’d drank a little bit too much. I’d even smoked some of the product Cole managed to get past airport security with. Ethan was a genius when it came to drugs. I had no idea what he put in the shit other than knowing it wasn’t addicting. It just made me feel calm. I needed it after the shit time I’d been having lately.

“Hey, isn’t that Jamie?” Cole asked, slapping me on the arm as we walked into the Rayton Sports Arena later that night.

I followed his gaze and saw her sitting in the crowd next to a Hispanic girl and the two guys I’d taken home when I’d picked Spencer up at the bar. Jace and Ryder.

“Yeah. She’s one of my students.”

“Nice. Let’s go say hi.”

Before I could stop him, he forced his way up to where they were sitting.

“Fucking shit,” I muttered, following him up.

I made it just in time to hear him call out to Jamie.

“Hey, Jamie.”

Jamie looked over at him, and her eyes widened.

“Where’s my hug?” he demanded, stretching his arms wide for her. I knew Jamie was pretty scared of Cole. And for good reason. My brother was a fucking live wire. He was getting worse the deeper he got with the horsemen. I knew some of the shit he’d done. I loved him anyway, but fuck, how he slept at night I had no idea. Some things I wished I didn’t know.

Jamie got to her feet as her three friends stared. Luckily, they were at the edge of the aisle, so her walk wasn’t far. She came to him and gave him an awkward hug.

I watched as he held her tightly.

“Been too long,” he said.

My heart clenched a little for him.

“It has,” she agreed, pulling away. She didn’t even look my way. I deserved that though.

“How have you been? How is everyone?”

“Hanging in there,” he said. “That’s the answer to both those questions.”

She gave him a wobbly smile. I was sure the last time she’d seen him was the week of the funeral.

“We should talk later. After the game. Have a drink,” Cole continued.

Jamie finally looked my direction. Her cheeks darkened. Of-fucking-course Cole had to notice.

“You worried about your professor? I have it on good authority he’s cool. You know him. Just pretend he’s not your teacher for the night. Could be fun.” Cole gave her a wink and his signature flirty smile.

Asshole.

“So what do you say? Drinks after?”

“There’s a party after,” she said awkwardly. “I told Gabby I’d go—”

“I like drinks too,” The girl I assumed was Gabby called out, her focus on my brother.

Dream on, girl. Cole only has eyes for one girl…

Cole brightened further, surprising me. “Tell you what. I’ll go to your party with Professor Hard Ass here and you come out with us for drinks. Your boyfriend can come too. I guess.”

“Neither are so lucky,” Gabby replied, giving Cole the up and down that could only lead to bad places. “I’m single.”

“Fantastic. Then no one has to get punched tonight.
