Vicky was very much looking forward to getting back in Mannie's arms as soon as they got back to Metzburg.

Given his druthers, she would have established her capital on St. Petersburg at Mannie's Sevastopol city. That was where she'd fled for her life, with her stepmother's assassins hot on her heels. That was where the rebellion against the Empress and her family had started. However, the reason Vicky had fled there to begin with was that it was as far from Greenfeld as she could go and stay in the Empire.

Despite Mannie's love for his home planet, St. Petersburg was too far out in left field to be the capital of half the Empire.

New Brunswick wanted the honor of being the capital. It was the largest planet in Vicky's half of the Empire that was closest to the middle of the total Empire. There were a lot of large, successful industrial planets close to New Brunswick. They had a strong argument that they should be the capital.

Of course, Metzburg wouldn't accept that. It had been the first planet to join St. Petersburg in raising the flag of rebellion. It was also the largest planet in Vicky's half of the Empire closest to Greenfeld. They thought they should be the capital.

Oh, and they'd drawn the longest straw when it came to where to throw Vicky's imperial wedding.

Since it was where she'd left Mannie, and also where they'd found that wonderful island to honeymoon on, Vicky homed in on Metzburg like a love-seeking missile.

No sooner had the Victorious sealed locks with the station than Mannie was hurrying up the gangway and into her arms.

For a very long couple of minutes, Vicky was neither a vice admiral, nor a Grand Duchess. She was just a woman who had very much missed a husband she was very much in love with.

If the other people on the quarterdeck didn't like what the two of them were doing, they could just look the other way.

Finally, Vicky had to break for air.

"I think you missed me," Mannie said.

"And you didn't miss me?"

"I didn't say that," Mannie said, and hugged her even closer to him.

Vicky knew she was not providing a good example for the young junior officers of the watch. She was putting on far too much of a public display of affection. She probably should have worn civvies.

She pulled Mannie into another long kiss.

"Maybe we should adjourn to your cabin," Mannie said as her kiss went long and deep.

With a sigh, Vicky broke from the clinch and walked, her arm around his shoulder, his arm around her waist, off the quarterdeck and back to her quarters.

She managed to keep her uniform on until she kicked the non-airtight door shut.

Much, much later, Vicky had dinner set up in her day quarters while she and Mannie were still in bed in her night quarters. Actually, Maggie did it.

There are advantages to having a very smart computer.

Vicky enjoyed prancing around nude as she served her husband his soup, salad, then main entrée from the serving cart.
