Sooner or later, all the cogs working in offices will be replaced by digital cogs. Digital cogs are more efficient, quicker and cheaper. They donât have family, they donât get sick and they donât complain about not having enough breaks. They do repetitive tasks better than humans do. History repeats itself, and the digitalisation of repetitive work will create massive unemployment again. The question is, what new opportunities will arise? Most of them we canât predict, but something Iâm certain of is that a cog canât be creative. Creativity is what defines us as a species. It isnât just about art â you donât need to be a painter, a sculptor or a musician to be creative. All the cogs that have replaced the boring work were invented by creative people. If creativity canât be replaced by cogs, the jobs of the future will be jobs where creativity is the main focus.
