Chapter 7

THINGS YOU PUT IN YOUR DRINK

Because everyone consumes drinks, both alcoholic and nonalcoholic, they are a large component of the food industry. For 2015 there was an $841 billion global soft drink market and a $1,344 billion alcoholic beverage market.1 The Party Drink Calculator states that, on average, each guest at a party will consume two beverages the first hour of the party and then one drink every hour thereafter.2 In his day, William Claude Dukenfield (stage name W. C. Fields), a well-known actor in the twentieth century, did not set a good example of responsible drinking. Famous for his portrayals of an inebriated character, he was born too soon to follow the Party Calculator for his consumption rate.
