Chapter 18

It took Earth two weeks to formally request a mutual aid treaty with everyone else.

“Excuse the interruption, but Admiral Johnson has requested to speak with all three of you.”

The three former colony leaders were having meeting about their resource systems and what their alliance would look like going forward.

“Gentlemen, its fine with me. What are your thoughts?” asked Alex.

Both men agreed to speak with him, so Alex opened the channel.

“Hello Admiral, you have all three of us online. What can we do for you?”

“Hello gentlemen. I hope you’re all doing well. I have been tasked with asking you to return to the fold, so to speak. Earth and the World Council wish me to remind you that you all agreed too and signed the articles of colonization. For Orion and Talus, you both agreed to have Earth as the ruling body of your colony. Is there any way that is going to happen?” The Admiral asked these questions with a straight face, no expression visible.

Not one of the men hesitated in answering with a firm, “No.”

Admiral Johnson opened his mouth to say something when Alex spoke.

“Admiral, be very careful with your next words. I do not handle being threatened well. Even less so lately. And the Wolf system will defend its allies.”

Johnson nodded his head and started speaking. “Earth formally requests a mutual aid treaty with the Wolf, Orion and Talus systems. Whatever treaty you have amongst yourselves is acceptable to Earth. The World Council acknowledges that the articles were written with malicious intent and formally releases you from them while also acknowledging that you do not require us to do so.”

After a moment, all three men nodded to the Admiral. The past was the past and they needed to move on.

“Jay, please send the treaty we have with Orion and Talus to Earth. If it is acceptable to them, we will sign it. Admiral, my treaty covers the Wolf system only. Orion and Talus will need to send their own treaty.”

“Talus will agree to a treaty. Rock, please send it to Earth.”

“Janet, send Earth our treaty as well. Orion will defend Earth if needed.”

With that settled, Admiral Johnson joined the meeting since it would involve Earth as well.

“So, a quick update. Both Orion and Talus are going to swap to the Destroyer class as their primary vessel. In an actual fight, the design worked so much better than expected that they feel the battle cruiser is out matched. We have collectively decided that we will not be building the fighter carrier version any more. It will be used for troop transport though.”

“Will the Titan design be available for use?” asked Johnson.

“I will not be giving the Titan or any other vessels that we design to anyone. The Destroyer was the last gift. We have no objections if any of you copy the design, or even make an entirely new design. We want to encourage growth, not dependence. “
