By the time we reach the surface again, it’s early in the morning, the sun just starting to peek over the horizon. The chill from the night is still in the air, or is that the chill of what happened here last night?

Litha in walking in front of us, her back straight, her head up high. Behind her are Finn and Bane, then Rune and Kit, and finally me. We’re walking out the way that the fae king had come in, since we soon realised that was the only sensible way out.

Turns out, dragons, werewolves, incubi, succubi and witches are great at working together when they all have access to their full magic potential, and fae can’t fight against it. So, fairly soon after Litha did the ritual, the struggles and fights had ceased. What I heard, many fae soldiers didn’t want to fight anymore when they realised what had happened. They may have outnumbered us initially, but while we were underground the werewolf king and succubus queen had come through with large parts of their army, which had arrived right on time.

And now, we’re walking down almost a tunnel of soldiers. Most of them incubus, succubus or werewolf, but I also spot some fae here and there, in the back. They’re all staring at Litha, their eyes wide open as they all want to see her.

A witch queen, flanked by princes of all races, the sight of a lifetime. This will be a story people will tell for generations, if we don’t mess shit up before that happens.

At the end of the line, I catch sight of my mum, and a strange feeling settles in my stomach. She was always my mother and my highest priestess, but now I’m no longer part of her coven, I’m a highest priestess myself and will have to create my own coven. We’re equals now, and I have no idea how to tell her that.

There are cars waiting for us at the end of the tunnel of people, to drive us back to campus since we can’t walk all the way. We’d probably collapse from exhaustion before we even got halfway back.

I try to think of how long we’ve been awake now, but I’ve got no idea. Much too long, that’s for sure. I don’t think any of us have slept from the day Rune and Finn left to save the dragons, and that was three days ago.

No wonder I’m this tired...
