Chapter 16

Damiron

Everything hurt. Everything.

I opened my eyes to the sight of my ceiling—dark gray and familiar. It was my bed I was lying on. So I had gotten back. It wasn’t just a dream.

The sound of gentle breathing beside me made me turn my head slowly. There she was. Sibyl lay next to me. She was curled on her side, facing me. Her hands were tucked under her pillow. The sheet came up to her shoulder, leaving her neck bare. She was still asleep. Her eyes were closed. Her lashes made a gentle fan over her cheeks. There was the lightest sprinkling of freckles over her nose and her wavy brown hair was splayed all over the pillow like a cloud. Her lips were parted. Even in my current state, my cock became aroused. It was laughable. I could barely move, let alone fuck.

Sibyl’s forehead twitched, as if she could feel my gaze on her. Moments later, she opened her eyes. Her golden gaze went to me immediately. She propped herself up on one elbow and looked at me with concern. “You’re awake,” she said in a sleep-roughened voice. “How are you feeling? What happened to you?”

“You have a habit of asking more than one question at a time,” I said. “It makes it difficult to know which one you wish me to start with.”

She smiled at me. Her hair fell around her face. “Let’s start with the first one—how are you feeling?”

“Like I just fought twenty Brakken, plus a dozen mechanized soldiers.” I frowned and shifted a little bit on the bed. Not that there was a more comfortable position. Everything would be painful for a while.

Her eyes widened. “Twenty Brakken? And mechanized soldiers?” She shook her head. “You mean like robots or cyborgs?”

Robots? That was a word in her language. She must not realize that whatever a robot was, there was no comparable word in Destran. “Some were mechanical beings with legs and arms, like us, but when we cut them, their insides consisted of metal and wires and computerized parts. Two others were beings in suits. They wore full helmets that covered their faces and ran for a small ship when fighting broke out.” I ground my teeth. “Cowards.”

She fussed over my hair a little bit and I didn’t mind it at all. “I guess that also answers what happened to you.” She sighed. The strap of her nightgown fell over her shoulder and she casually pushed it back up. My gaze followed the movement hungrily. “We did not lose anyone.” I closed my eyes, grateful for that one thing. “All of my warriors made it home.” Now I just had to hope they survived. That the healers were able to tend to their wounds.

“Cordai hasn’t been here yet,” Sibyl said. “Is she aware that you’re injured?”

I could’ve laughed if I had the energy and if it wouldn’t have hurt so bad. “We were all injured. Yes, she is aware.”

Sibyl nodded. “Is there anything I can do?”

You can undo my pants and squeeze my cock.
