The Bridge Hill Gateposts
The gardens of Bridge Hill House were extensive. At the rear were these fine-looking stone gateposts. Together with the contents of the house, they were auctioned off before demolition of the property began. The modern view isn’t of the same spot, nor even in Belper, but shows the posts where they stand today, by the roadside on the Ripley Road just outside Heage, looking as impressive as they ever did. They were incorporated into the boundary wall of a farm by their new owner.
