A Note on the Thyroid

For the sake of simplicity, and my intention to keep this book as accessible as possible for the lay reader, I’ve neglected to explore another key aspect of our endocrine system, which is the thyroid.

The thyroid also plays a critically important role in our body’s metabolism. There is certainly a subgroup of fatigue sufferers, particularly women, who may also suffer with an underactive thyroid, and this in itself can have an equally potent impact on energy levels.

An underactive thyroid is more likely to be picked up by conventional medical testing than adrenal issues (though not always), but as will perhaps not be a surprise to you now, given our journey together, it isn’t best treated by simply ingesting lots of thyroid hormones (although they have their place). Indeed, this can sometimes cause more problems than it solves. As always, an integrative approach like the one we’re exploring together, targeting the problem on multiple levels, is still critical.
