The closer you strike your putts to the sweet spot of your putter, the more consistently energy will be transferred to your putts. Maximum energy transfer occurs when putts are impacted precisely on the putter sweet spot, and the variability in energy transfer is least sensitive when putts are struck close to the sweet spot. Drastic changes in energy transfer occur when putts are impacted far away from the putter’s sweet spot.

Description

Putting results are so strongly influenced by the repeatability (or lack thereof) of impact position, that the size of a golfer’s impact pattern overshadows many other individual strengths and weaknesses in putting stroke mechanics. This dependency is clearly illustrated by the correlation of the handicap vs. impact pattern size of forty-eight golfers chosen randomly from our schools (based on handicap) in Figure 3.4-2 (lower handicaps toward upper left, high handicaps toward lower right).
