“…! What’s is it?!” AST Captain Ryouko Kusakabe cried out when an alarm abruptly sounded at the SDF Tengu Garrison.

Normally, the AST were training at this time of day, but Ryouko was in the control room due to certain circumstances.

The technician tapped at her console and then let out a squeak. “I-it’s…an incredible Spirit signal!”

“A Spirit signal… Is this DEM again?!” Ryouko scowled.

They had measured several Spirit signals very recently, in fact.

Berserk, Diva…and Princess.

The signal from Princess, in particular, had suddenly increased after the initial measurement, indicating the same level of power as when they’d fought her previously.

The reason that Ryouko and the rest of the Spirit-hunting AST were just sitting around while so many Spirits appeared in the city was exceedingly simple—DEM Industries. The company put serious pressure on the Ministry of Defense to keep the AST from interfering when they were carrying out special operations.

Thus, Ryouko and her team could only glare at the radar in the control room, all the while knowing that Spirits were manifesting in Tengu.

Eyes glued to the digits on the screen, the technician swallowed hard, looking scared. “N-no…! This isn’t one of the ones mentioned in the DEM briefing!”

“What did you say?!” Ryouko cried as she set her hands on the technician’s shoulders and peered at the screen.

Indeed, she did see there a Spirit signal different from the ones of the Spirits they’d witnessed so far. And the numbers were far too powerful, on par with Princess at full strength.

“You’re telling me that a different Spirit showed up during the operation? And given that there’s no spacequake, it’s a quiet manifestation?!”

Ryouko’s face grew stern. To say that this was a situation that required emergency action was an understatement. If this Spirit began to fight with Princess, she couldn’t begin to estimate how much damage there would be.

“Captain!”

The door to the control room flew open, and two small girls came inside. AST member Mikie Okamine and mechanic Mildred F. Fujimura. Mikie was already wearing her wiring suit.

“All AST personnel are ready to go!” she said.

“CR units are in top shape, too,” the mechanic continued. “Full performance whenever you need it.”

“Mikie… Milly…,” Ryouko said their names with a sigh.

There was no way they could have responded this quickly to a Spirit signal that had only just been detected. Most likely, they’d been preparing to mobilize for a while now. Because they felt the same way she did.

When Origami was disciplined, Mikie had been so upset that she’d announced that she was going to quit the AST, too. And now here she was, magnificently fulfilling her duty. She was pushing herself so that she could hold her head high when Origami came back one day. Ryouko’s expression softened at this growth in her subordinate.

“Captain!” the technician called out. “Message from headquarters!”

“Huh! Good timing.” Ryouko assumed it was probably a mobilization order, and she pulled the emergency device out of her pocket.

However.

“Er. It says for the AST…to continue on standby.”

Ryouko, Mikie, and Milly opened their eyes wide in surprise.
