I told you. Sandalphon was summoned now because of your wish, Shido. So you’re the only one who can make it come true.

The words Tohka had spoken when he held Sandalphon the first time came back to him vividly.

Calm your mind. And remember. What do you want to do? What are you wishing for right now? Put everything else out of your mind. Imagine that wish in your heart and swing the sword. The Angel will respond.

A single wish. He focused all his determination on his wish to rescue Tohka.

Sandalphon grew brighter in response to Shido’s will, thrumming with power.

“Aaaaaah!”

With a battle cry ripping from his throat, he swung the magic blade. Rings of light rippled outward from the arc of the sword and sent the Wizards and their Territories flying, along with the entire wall behind them.

“Nngh!” one of the Wizards grunted as he was propelled outside the building.

But one enemy remained standing before him. The Wizard rushed toward Shido as she drew her laser edge from her waist and swung it at Shido.

“Hngh!”

He just barely managed to raise Sandalphon in time to defend himself.

The Wizard clearly had him beat in terms of speed. She dropped down low and thrust a large knife at Shido, twisting it as she went to dig deep into his side.

“Gah?!”

He felt an intense pain bloom there, and sparks shot across his field of vision.

But Shido didn’t fall.

“Stay out of my waaaaay!”

He stilled his shaking fingers, and when the Wizard drew near, he cracked her on the head with the pommel of his sword. Although it wasn’t the blade, the Angel itself was a mass of Spirit power. Sandalphon and Territory met with a burst of lightning.

“Wha—!” The Wizard had apparently not expected this. She cried out as she fell.

“Agaah! Unh…” Grimacing and gritting his teeth, Shido pulled the knife out of his side with his free hand. Blood gushed from the open wound, staining the floor around him. The pain that shot through him very nearly made him scream, and he almost passed out.

“Hah!”

But he braced himself, a cold sweat running down his face. He threw the knife, now devoid of magic, to the ground, where it made a clattering sound.

At the same time, a small fire licked at the stab wound. The blessing of the Spirit of flames, Kotori. A healing blaze that automatically patched up his injuries.

But Shido didn’t have the luxury of standing there waiting until he was completely healed. He started walking forward again, a searing flame burning on the side of his stomach.
