Chapter Seven: The Manchurian Redaction
Publisherâs Note: Hello there! My name is Ashley Donaldson and I work as an editor for Specific Dwelling Publishing. For reasons that will become clear later on in the story, Mr. Whittier was quite insistent that this book not be published immediately. Given the public relations nightmare that ensued after our premature release of Dark Moonlighting 2: Kruse Control sent the world into a panic about Adolf Hitler, we were inclined to accept his request. Although this book will not be published for many years, I was just too excited to wait to read and edit it.
I am afraid that I had to remove the chapter that was supposed to be here due to how inaccurate it was. Mr. Whittier was mistaken. The secret weapons facility that he referred to was actually in North Korea, not China. As everyone knows, nothing bad ever happens in China. Or, at least, nothing bad has happened in that country since it emerged as a highly profitable market for American books and movies. Mr. Whittier was under a lot of stress, and I do not blame him for his simple mistake. Many popular stories have needed to be edited due to this type of inaccuracy. A different version of Iron Man 3 was created specifically for Chinese audiences, for instance. The Red Dawn reboot had to be changed late in production once someone realized that the story called for the United States to be invaded by the Peopleâs Republic of China. That plot, obviously, would have been ludicrous as China is proud, honorable and peaceful.
The Chinese are an intelligent, hardworking and, if I may be so bold, very attractive people. On the other hand, North Korea sucks. Those guys cannot even afford food, let alone digital media. Anyway, Mr. Whittier must have been very confused when he wrote that part because he really seemed to think that it took place in China. I tried to salvage the chapter, but eventually gave up and just decided to cut it. I did not feel that it was very important for the overall story anyway.
