The deciding factors seem to be “he’s a bit slow” or “he doesn’t remember very well.” Apparently all parents want their children to stay at this school but the principal says “they are in denial. They say their child must stay here but they stay and they don’t learn anything.”

One of the teachers immediately dissected “the problem” in the above extract saying “then our teaching problems are the root of children’s exclusion” at which point the potential of social model thinking for inclusive practice seemed plain—and appropriate.
