AN ANTINOMIAN DAWN

“If then the light in you is darkness, how great is the darkness” (Mt. 6:22b)!

The sun declines from West to East

And darkness rules the day.

Thick Darkness stalks through waking hours

And night’s light turns to gray.

For moonlight, moon dust all around,

The stars’ light fades away.

And darkened sense now cannot see

Morality’s decay.

ECCLESIASTES REDUX

“Vanity of vanities, saith the Preacher,Vanity of vanities; all is vanity” (Eccl. 1:2, KJV).

“…What profit hath he that hath labored for the wind” (Eccl. 5:16, KJV).

The abandoned pulpit echoes

(vanity of vanities)

A laboring for wind,

Some human suspiration

To give voice to a word,

A pacemaker of grace perhaps,

To strengthen the iambic

Of an old man’s tired heart.
