Chapter 12

Building a Conscious Culture: The Conscious-Culture Playbook

In this chapter, we will ask you to reflect on the questions and self-evaluation you have been conducting and agree on what this means for your organization. You no doubt highlighted many areas that needed improvement. That is normal; change takes time, and few companies excel at all aspects of TACTILE.

Conscious culture begins with clarifying what such a culture might look like for your organization and identifying the values that will drive the behaviors to get you there. These tasks all come together in the development of what we call a conscious-culture playbook and the rollout of that playbook to the entire organization. Clearly, the top team must be aligned on this topic, but the leaders’ mere desire for a conscious culture is not enough for success. The team then needs to walk the talk; the organization will be watching what you do, not just what you say. Further, the conscious-culture playbook should be in everyone’s hands—and in their hearts and minds. You have to make these values and behaviors relevant to people; conscious culture needs to become “the way we do things around here.” Through the playbook, you share the whys and hows of the prevalent behaviors you are evolving in your organization. Don’t keep these ideas a secret.
