Chapter Eight
The fact Iggy didn’t seem to recognize him almost had Beckett smiling. Only years of experience kept it away. He could tell by her actions she was suspicious. He’d been in the park for hours feeding the damn birds and napping like old men did.
His body hadn’t responded like an old man, by any means, when she came into view. She moved with such grace and sensuality it belied the point she had it in her to be a stone-cold assassin. A slight aura of innocence hovered around her. She sat there in pale pink shorts that drew his eye to her smooth and toned legs. Legs he loved having around his waist or over his shoulders.
Nope, not the time for those thoughts. He moved on. A white shirt—snug fitting—showcased her flat belly and full breasts.
God, he continued to have wet dreams about her breasts. Coughing, he tossed out more seed for the greedy birds. She rose from the bench, a frown on her face, only to bend over it for something on the other side.
He’d shame himself if this kept on.
A ragged sigh left him when she sat back down. Years. He’d managed without her for years. Now she was what he was most focused on. A little over a week. That was the time he had to survive being so close to her when he couldn’t do anything about it.
Maybe not. Assuming she hadn’t lied to him, they shared a son, one he was determined to learn about, one way or another. Which meant there’d be a lot more of Indigo Gray in his life. Because no matter what she said, he had every intention of being a father to Sean. Boys needed their fathers.
Another toss of birdseed, and he grunted when she got to her feet. She shouldered her bag, opened the book in her hand, and began walking away, her sleek ponytail swaying with each step. He made sure he didn’t listen to his baser desires and turn to watch her walk out of sight.
Instead, he concentrated on something else. The feel of those silken strands flowing over his skin as he bunched his hands in her hair had his breathing shorten. The smoky look she shot him as he held her while he buried himself deep inside her.
Great! Now he was horny and sweaty.
“Perdóneme.” Excuse me.
Indigo’s voice, smooth and apologetic, pulsed through him, courtesy of the earpiece he had. He didn’t turn to see. That would be foolish and possibly ruin their work. If she used the same method as she’d previously done, the man had just a few minutes.
The third target appeared near the bench she’d been seated at and was moving by it when gunshots rang out. Beckett ducked immediately, scanning for the shooter. The man she was to take out lay on his back, unmoving. Chaos erupted in the park, people screamed, some prayed, most ran.
Had she truly killed the man? And how had she pulled it off? He hadn’t seen a weapon on her.
