Spartacus had no idea that so many adults were interested in wargaming. He knew that there were some, obviously, but it turned out that when you laid on a convention and invited them to turn up, there were dozens. He and his friends were gathered around a table in the Evelyn Steed memorial function room, ready to take down each other’s fantasy barbarian hordes, but right now they were distracted by the influx of gamers.

“I always thought that Darren Pottersmore had the worst taste in clothes I’d ever seen,” said Jefri Rehemtulla. “There’s a few in here who make him look like James Bond.”

“Seriously?” Said Spartacus. “Mr C takes some beating when it comes to dressing like you’ve never even seen what clothes look like.”

“Yeah,” said Thor Lexworth-Hall. “Gotta give you that.”

“Tell you what though, there are some cool T-shirts in here. Did you see the NASA one with the rocket?”

“I saw one that said Zombies eat brains, so you’re safe!”

They cackled together for a moment but Thor’s face clouded. “I got no money for that sort of stuff.”

“The geek world is looking out for us,” said Spartacus. “Animal Ed has brought a T-shirt machine with him. I reckon we can persuade him to print us some T-shirts once we’ve finished this game.”

“Will he?” said Jefri.

“He used to date my mum. I can guilt him into anything.”
