This out-of-the-way wine bar has acquired enough of a glowing reputation to attract a clientele from across town, who's willing to schlep all the way to the top of the Belleville hill and fight the neighborhood regulars for a table.

The wine list is short but edgy, the fare hearty and high-spirited (tuna tartare, citrus-braised beef cheeks, tripe with Spanish paprika and chickpeas), and the rowdy atmosphere matches the slipshod décor perfectly. Le Baratin is open for lunch (15€ formule) and dinner (about 30€), but also welcomes customers who just want to stop in for a drink at the bar (wine by the glass starts at 3.50€).
