Rectangle

The rectangle has opposite sides equal and parallel and four right angles.

Diagonals of a rectangle are equal and bisect each other.

Parallelogram

The parallelogram has opposite sides equal and parallel, opposite angles equal, and consecutive angles supplementary. Diagonals of a parallelogram bisect each other but are not necessarily equal. If the diagonals of a parallelogram are equal, it becomes a rectangle.

In parallelogram ABCD,

∠A = ∠C

∠B = ∠D

∠A + ∠B = 180°

∠A + ∠D = 180°

∠B + ∠C = 180°

∠C + ∠D = 180°

is a height (or altitude) in this parallelogram, where .

Rhombus

The rhombus is a parallelogram with four equal sides but not necessarily four equal angles.

Diagonals of a rhombus are not necessarily equal, but they do bisect each other, are perpendicular to each other, and bisect the angles through which they pass.

In the figure, , so can be considered a height (or altitude) of the rhombus.
