CHAPTER SEVEN
I awoke the next morning with excitement. Skateboard in hand, I walked up to the front gate of Emikoâs house. I was stopped by one of their bulky could-probably-kick-my-butt bodyguards. âWeâve been expecting you,â he said.
âOK.â I was let in by the guard and walked all the way up the long driveway. I arrived at the front door. I was but a dwarf compared to this massive passageway. I very timidly knocked on the door. Within seconds, the door opened, and it was Emiko.
âHi, Owen,â she said excitedly. âCome in, come in, come in!â She let me in.
Scuttling my way in, I looked at her in awe; her beauty was breathtaking. I just wanted to stare at herâin a noncreepy fashion, of course. She was wearing a loose-fitting, white tank top with tiny, blue flowers on it and dark-blue jeans, accessorized with gold bracelets. Her hair seemed to be just straightened and was beautifully laid against her head. âLet me give you a tour!â she said, as her excitement continued.
âGreat!â I didnât have too much time to think about my answer as she dragged me along, her enthusiasm increasing every step of the way. The house was massive. Iâm not sure how many bedrooms and/or bathrooms there were. The theme of the house seemed to be oriental modern. Once you walked in the front door, there was a grand entryway. The ceilings were thirty foot high or more. To the left was a flight of stairs with cast iron railings leading to the second floor. Everything was white in this area: the walls, tile floor, ceiling, and steps. There were small trinkets that added splashes of color to the area. Most of them were placed in built-ins on the walls. We walked past the stairs, and up ahead on my left was a glass wall.
âThis is our garden.â She pointed to the giant glass case to our right. Behind it was an indoor oriental garden. It looked very neat and peaceful. There was a butterfly resting on a flowerâs petal while it softly swayed in the breeze. All the plants and grass were well kept and manicured; and they all got sun from the skylight above. The biggest feature was the rock fountain that spilled into the koi pond. There was even a little bridge that passed over the body of water.
âCool,â I said.
We continued walking and found ourselves in a big, open space. There, in the center of the room, was a formal living room area. There were two loveseat couches, five chairs, a coffee table, and a couple of high-top tables, all resting on a large carpet that took up most of the space.
âThis is where we entertain guests when we have parties or throw benefits. And over behind the garden is the kitchen, but I will show you that later. Umâ¦â She pointed to a hallway on the left side of the house. âOver there is the theater room and library. And upstairs we have my bedroom, my parentsâ bedroom, my dadâs office, and a couple of guest rooms.
