Decker sighed, “As you say,” he said, irritably.

The Judges entered the court from a door behind the Jury Panel, taking their bench with the Jury following close behind. There was no call to rise no announcement of the court being in session. The Court simply took their seats. A secretary announced the traditional vote to elect a Prime Judge and Jury Foreman. The former voted for the latter and vice versa; the trial was declared open and the Prime Judge, Flannigan Shmulie rose and spoke:

“Decker Marius, you are accused of the assassination of Marietti Abdul Awad, a person, Ambassador of the Erelim to the Council of the Three Crowns. The Prosecution has tendered notice that they are ready to proceed with the trial against you. At this time you may name your Advocate or have an Advocate assigned to you; it is your right to refuse advocacy as well. You are required to enter a plea, at this time.”
