aFollowing Cramer & Appclbaum (1980), the significance of main effects is tested and reported only when the 2-way interaction term is not significant (p > .10; one-tailed test). In each regression, the main effects are entered first, then the interaction term is added and the significance of its partial coefficient is tested according to Cohen & Cohen (1983: 107 [eq. 3.6.7]). cAS = Anglosaxon; WG = West German. dNT = no job transfer group: T = job transfer group: PT = promotional transfer group. bA = Collaborative interpersonal support; B = 0,1 dummy variable reflecting job transfer groups as specified in column 4. Additional exploratory correlation analysis reveals that correlations between CIS and the work-related outcomes are consistently larger for British/American lateral transferees than for West German laterally transferred respondents; the same is true for British/American vs. West German promotional transferees. For example, for laterally transferred British/American R&D professionals, the correlation between CIS and overall work satisfaction is .59, for West German lateral transferees it is .23. While only four of the eight cross-cultural differences between pairs of correlation coefficients is statistically significant (p < .10), results as a set seem to suggest that CIS may be more effective in protecting British/American R&D professionals from tensions and demands associated with a job transfer than for their West German counterparts.
