In West Barnstable, a number of Finnish immigrants came in the late nineteenth and early twentieth century. In fact, the eastern part of that village is sometimes called “Finn Town.” A 2007 Cape Cod Times article about Finnish descendants noted that “dozens of Finnish families settled in Falmouth, West Yarmouth and Barnstable.…[T]hey came for cranberries. They worked in the West Barnstable brickyard and the Keith CarWorks in Sagamore.” They brought their traditions and their love of family to a new land.

In more recent years, people from other countries have settled on the Cape, including Brazilians and Jamaicans. According to the 2010 census, there are sixty-eight thousand Brazilian immigrants in Massachusetts, many of them living on Cape Cod. The goal of many Brazilians has been to find better job opportunities and earn money to send back to family living in Brazil. Overall, this influx of immigrants has enriched Cape Cod over the past few centuries.
