The two jogged back inside the branch, hyped about dispatching the drunks. Angie was just finishing a checkout as they took their places with no one noticing.

“Thanks,” Robin said to Angie.

“Yeah, thanks for covering. That was fun,” Tommy added. He was actually smiling.

“You’re welcome. You two looked good out there. Pretty much in sync.”

The door to the clerical office opened and Sonyai stepped out. “What’s going on out here? Your voices are carrying!” The two clerks looked away as the senior clerk gave Angie a look. “Miss Trueblood?”

Angie gasped and pretended to not know where she was. “I’m sorry. I was looking for a book on the shelving cart. I’ll be on my way now.” She exchanged glances with both clerks, then smiled and walked back to the information desk.

Sonyai closed the door and the two clerks loosened up. “You got some moves there.” Robin nodded to Tommy.

“You’re not so bad yourself, trying to do that kung-fu shit.”

Robin held his finger up and whispered, “I know who you are,” then winked.

Tommy’s smile disappeared. “What are you talking about?”

“When I was busy kicking your ass—”

“Hey!” Tommy interrupted.

Robin waved his hand. “Okay, okay. We on good terms so I won’t ruin the moment, but back then, I noticed you did a three-point stance and it stayed with me. So I did some research.”

Tommy remained quiet, but he became nervous about where this was going.

“You really got everyone fooled. Letting your hair grow, cutting your beard, but it’s still you.”

“You don’t know what you’re talking about.”

“Number 38, University of Syracuse Orangemen?” Robin grinned.

“No!” Tommy exclaimed.

“Tom Connelly. Linebacker from 1988 to 1990.” He finished with a smile.

Tommy stepped forward and brought his face inches from Robin’s. “Don’t you tell anybody, you hear me?”

“Easy, man! Your secret is safe with me.” He let out a sinister chuckle. Tommy stepped back, but Robin was still smiling. “One day, you gotta tell me what happened.”
