Tip Time!

Never eat a garnish in a drink that has been submerged in the liquid of the beverage. For instance, if a drink has a cherry on a pick, it is fine to eat, however, if it does not and is at the bottom of your drink, do not fish it out to eat!

Know your limit if you decide to have wine, cocktails, or other liquors. This is still a business setting and you don’t want to behave in a manner that can embarrass you or the company. Set your own drink limit and stick to it. And don’t forget to eat something.

Finger Foods

Most food at networking events and cocktail parties can be eaten without utensils, but there’s still a correct way to eat them. Bar snacks include pretzels, nuts, and olives. Don’t eat them directly out of the communal bowl. Place the food on your cocktail napkin or a plate before putting them in your mouth. Canapés are bite-sized menu items, also referred to as hors d’oeuvres, that may be passed around by servers or displayed on a buffet. Before picking up food, take a napkin from the server or a plate from a buffet, and place each piece of food on it before eating it. If there is a dip, scoop a spoonful onto the lower right area of your plate. Limit the number of pieces you take of an item no matter how much you like it to leave enough for everyone to enjoy. Stick with items that can be eaten in one or two bites so you can take a bite and keep up with a conversation. Avoid foods that are greasy, flaky or difficult to eat or manage.
