Ginny woke in Three’s arms again. Every morning they either trained, or went out on mission, and she stayed chained to the wall in the room they called lock down. When they returned, Three would come for her, either escorted by the doctor or his associate. They’d eat, and talk, and then they’d fall asleep. The next morning when she awoke Three would be wrapped around her from behind.

Though she was awake, she remained perfectly still, not wanting to alert him to the fact that she was awake. She even kept her eyes closed. If she opened them to start her day, she’d have to accept that she was still held captive in a place with an insane captor, who threatened on a regular basis to give her to the other team. She preferred to remain in denial for the few minutes she was able to each morning.

“I know you’re awake,” Three whispered at her ear.

“How?” she whispered back.

“Breathing changed,” he answered. “Why do you do that? Pretend to still be sleeping?” he asked.

Their voices were low, whispering so they didn’t wake any of the others if they were still resting.

“As soon as I’m awake, I have to admit that it’s another day that I’m still captive. Another day of being chained to a wall. Another day that…” she stopped talking, deciding it wasn’t even worth mentioning that Brutal still hadn’t found her.

“That he still hasn’t found you,” Three finished.

Ginny nodded.

“You really believe he’s going to come?” Three asked.

“I did. Now, I’m second guessing myself,” she admitted. “He wanted everything. Me as his mate, his wife. Forever. But I was too afraid and I pushed him away. Maybe the last time I tried to hold him at arm’s length was too much.”

“Why were you afraid?” Three asked.

“I was afraid of losing him. If I gave him everything and he walked away, for whatever reason, I was afraid of falling apart, losing myself and becoming nothing but a shell.”

“So, you chose to be alone, instead of with him, and now you hope he comes for you.”

“Selfish, huh?” Ginny asked.

“Unrealistic,” Three said. “There’s always a chance things will change. People will come and go. You going to stop living because of it?”

“You don’t understand. There’s a lot of background,” Ginny said. “There’s more to it.”

“No, I don’t understand,” Three agreed.

“You said he wanted everything. Mate and wife,” Two’s voice said from a few feet away.

“Yes,” Ginny confirmed.

“Did he say he wanted you to be his mate, or did he say you are his mate?” Two asked.

“He said I am his mate. And that’s why I think he got so angry when he kept pushing and I pushed him away.”

Two sat up, pushing his blanket to the bottom of his mattress. “He’s coming.”

“Waller?” she asked, sitting up quickly.

“No. Your male. If you’re his mate, he’s coming at some point. Only problem I see is that he doesn’t know where you are to come for you. But, if he’s any kind of male, he’ll search until he finds you,” Two said.
