The more easily we see the value in any person, product, or experience, the more likely we are to invest in it. If we are guaranteed to get back more value than we put into our investment, economics tells us to take that investment every single time.

This very principle rules each of our actions on a day-to-day basis. Our human nature constantly talks to us and says to invest in what brings us the most value. The problem is, our sinful human nature doesn’t determine value in the same ways that God determines value. How does God determine value?

“Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?” Matthew 6:26 ESV

“Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? And not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father. But even the hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not, therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows.” Matthew 10:29–31 ESV

He went on from there and entered their synagogue. And a man was there with a withered hand. And they asked him, “Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath?”—so that they might accuse him. He said to them, “Which one of you who has a sheep, if it falls into a pit on the Sabbath, will not take hold of it and lift it out? Of how much more value is a man than a sheep! So it is lawful to do good on the Sabbath.” Then he said to the man, “Stretch out your hand.” And the man stretched it out, and it was restored, healthy like the other. Matthew 12:9–13 ESV
