Breathing while you brace. While the Valsalva is great for 1-rep maxes and other all-out efforts, not every set is so extreme or so short. Contrast this to when you “breathe behind the shield”: your torso muscles are engaged enough to protect you but not so much that it’s impossible to inhale and exhale.
