Family Values, Part 1
“Muthafucka, this shit don’t sale itself. We the ones out here getting shot at, running from these thirsty ass cops, and chasing these stankin’ ass fiends every fucking day!.”, screamed Jeremy to his brother Kevin. Kevin simply sat there strolling through messages on his cell phone as his younger brother went on a rant. “You finished yet?”, asked Kevin in his usually calm manner. Jeremy shook his head and paced back and forth through his brother’s office. “Tell me something little brother; You’re technically a supervisor. Why thy the hell are you on the corner getting shot at, running, and chasing your customers?”, asked Kevin.
Jeremy placed his hands over his face, looked up toward the ceiling, and took a deep breath to show his disgust. “Nigga, I don’t know what the fuck you learned in school. But, apparently that shit made you forget the way shit goes out here.”, said Jeremy. Still with a calm look on his face and an eerily calm disposition Kevin said, “Nope. I remember exactly how shit goes. That’s why I try to figure out a better way to deal with the shit.”
Kevin and Jeremy Hollis were the sons of Keith Hollis, one of the most notorious killers in the history of Chicago. Kevin was five years older than his brother Jeremy and considered the most calm between the two. Their father, Keith Hollis, was one of four brothers who included James Hollis, Carl Hollis, and Stephen Hollis. Keith was the most violent amongst the brothers and enforced their will. While James, Carl, and Stephen thought of every way possible to make money illegally. Kevin was the one who made sure the payments came through and no one attempted to steal the money away from them.
Over time the four brothers had children of their own and brought more family members into the mix. James, the oldest of the four brothers, had two sons of his own; James, Jr. and Daniel. Carl, the second oldest, had twin sons; Lonnie and Lenny. Stephen, the second youngest, had four daughters; Samantha, Sara, Sophia, and Sage. Keith was the youngest with his two sons Kevin and Jeremy.
However, the Four Horsemen, as the elder Hollis’ had come to be known, were now either dead or in jail. The responsibility of the family’s illegal activities fell on the next generation. Initially Kevin’s elder cousin James, Jr., or JJ as he came to be known, ran everything after the fall of the four horsemen. But, because of a well-placed informant JJ was serving the last month of a three year prison sentence. Before JJ was sentenced he told his brother and cousins that he wanted Kevin to be his proxy while he was locked up. According to JJ Kevin was not the oldest, most violent, or most street savvy but he was smart and he was adaptive. Kevin picked JJ’s brother Daniel as his chief advisor and his younger brother Jeremy as the new family enforcer.
“Man do you honestly believe I’m about to start a war with those crazy ass Mexicans over a few blocks?”, asked Kevin.
