ABOUT THIS PHOTO I used the sharpening and contrast tools in Photoshop Express, along with the emulsion-look border to create an image that reminds me of my photo-school days. The sharpening tool helps make the image look grainy like Tri-X. Exposure unrecorded by mobile phone.

An iPhone and Great Art.

While discussing digital imagery with an artist friend, I asked him how he converts to black and white his digital photographs that he often uses as the basis for his paintings. My assumption was that he used Photoshop Elements or even iPhoto or Windows Live Photo Gallery, but I was wrong. He uses his iPhone.

This is a great way to make black-and-white images on the fly. It is quite easy to upload photos from the computer into your mobile device, apply black-and-white changes to the image, and then download them to the computer to print or to post on the Web. Using the contrast sliders in MonoPhix, you can get very nice black-and-white tones with relative precision on a mobile phone from an image uploaded from the computer (see 5-8).
