Chapter 13
On Sunday, Jamie decided she had had enough of the stress and panic about Erica and Markâs relationship. Even though it was technically not her problem, Jamieâs heart went out to Erica and the difficulties she was struggling with at the moment. That, and Markâs past relationship, just made everything worse for the two of them.
It was important that someone who cared â someone like Jamie, for instance â stepped in to help. It wasnât always the easiest thing to sort something like that out by themselves. It was so hard to see the bigger picture from inside the problem. Sometimes an outside perspective was just what everyone needed. And Jamie cared enough for the two of them to try to intervene without being offensive. Her intention was only to help.
Which was why Jamie wanted to speak to Mark and Erica both, face to face. This wasnât the kind of thing she could handle with them over the phone. She wanted to see the raw emotion when she spoke to them, to gauge if she could make an impact when she wasnât on the other side of the phone line.
Sunday was Briannaâs day off. Alex often watched the children when Jamie had to go out on the weekend, but he wasnât home that day, either.
He had been called on a work-related emergency. Again. And that was another worry on Jamieâs shoulders, but she could only focus on so many things at once.
It meant that she would have to pack up the children and take them to the Country Club with her. So she got them fed and dressed and packed a bag with diapers and the like for Markie. She loaded them all into the car, three baby seats filling up the minivan, and took off.
On the way to the Country Club, Jamie mulled over everything she wanted to talk to Mark and Erica about. Not only that, but she was worried about Alex as well.
Lately, Alex had been dealing with a lot of emergencies at work. She was a little concerned about the number of problems Reid Enterprises had had lately. Things had been going very well for a while, and Jamie didnât want to go back to a time when the company had been constantly struggling. It had been a dark time for the company and for their relationship.
Alex had never been home, which had put a strain on their marriage, and the company had nearly gone under. The problems had been largely due to sabotage, and that had been taken care of. But it was not impossible that something like that could happen again.
They were set, she thought sometimes. With or without the company. But she knew that Alex wouldnât be happy without it. Wouldnât be content without a business to run and goals to strive toward. That had been made more than clear when things had gone badly with Reid Enterprises in the past.
Jamie wasnât ready to go through that mess again. She and Alex were happy, the childrenâs schedules worked.
