Chapter 14

Something's Wrong

Mia

Not every news is good news.

It's been two weeks since we revealed our true identities to each other and it's been two weeks since I received an email from the stalker.

I took it as a sigh of relief at first. Spending most of my time in Harrison's office, working, I assure you.

And then in the evenings, I went on dates with him, with my mask on of course.

But there was something different about him.

I can't tell if it's a good or bad difference.

For instance, I’m sharing the reviews and bug improvements for the beta version with him and Stella.

Stella is paying attention and writing down notes and asking questions.

But Harrison is….

"Sir, is anything wrong?" I ask.

He snaps out of it and looks at me and Stella, then smiles. "Don't mind me, I'm with you."

He's lying but I don't see any need to point it out.

These past few days, he's been bothered about something. Even when we were alone, his attention kept shifting to his phone or he is watching around us.

I asked him if there was anything wrong and I got the same reply that there was nothing wrong.

I thought it was the stalker again but they hadn't contacted me in a while so it was water under the bridge.

But the fact he wasn't talking to me about his problem was worrying.

I continue the presentation, still worried that his eyes are here but his mind is elsewhere.

I grit my teeth. "And that's all for today."

Stella raises a brow and looks at her tablet. "But you still have more slides to present."

"Sorry about that, Stella, I'm just not in the mood anymore," I say with a sigh as I power down the projector.

"Not professional behavior," she says as she adjusts her glasses before crossing her arms.

"I'm sorry," I apologize and turn my attention to Harrison.

His eyes are glued to his phone lying on the table.

I reach for it and he does the same as well, but I get to it first anyway.

"Hand it over," he demands with his hand open but he's not frowning; he just looks worried.

“Not until you tell me what’s wrong,” I insist.

“What are you doing, Mia?" Stella asks.

"Just leave this to me, Stella," I reply then turn my attention to him, "Are you going to tell me what's wrong?"

"There's nothing wrong, Ms. Simon," he says, "Just return it."

Ms. Simon?

He hasn't called me that in two weeks.

"Harrison, why don't you tell me what's wrong?" I ask.

"Mia, he says there's nothing wrong," Stella insists.

"I ask again that you let me handle this please," I say to her.

"It's nothing that you should concern yourself with," Harrison says.

I look into his eyes and he stares back. He's not upset… just… worried.

My God, has he even slept?

What's with the dark circles ruining his perfect face?

My hands unconsciously reach for his face, and he holds it in place.

"I'm…." I'm about to say something but…

"Ahem, that will be all, Mia, thank you," Stella says as she opens the door.

Harrison still holds my hand in place for some seconds before finally letting go.
