If you want to learn white balance, photograph something white in a variety of settings and compare the results, as I have done here with my friend’s white shirt. The photos were all shot in shade on a sunny day. Notice how the Daylight and final Flash versions are similar; in this situation, either of these settings would be fine. You would certainly want to avoid the Tungsten and Fluorescent settings, however, unless you were purposely trying to make a creative, artistic, blue-toned effect.
