I know a number of very successful bodybuilders, on all levels, who apply zig zag strategies to their eating plans. Simply put; the zig zag changes total caloric amounts on a daily basis. This can be done a number of ways.
1. You can use extremes based on goals. For example, if your goal is to drop as much fat as possible in the shortest time period, but still maintain your lean mass, you can alter calories by as much as 1000 to achieve this.
2. You can do minimal changes in total daily calories based on your exercise or workout schedule. On days you do not exercise, and do not want the added calories, drop the total by a few hundred, and revert to higher amounts on workout days.
3. One can change caloric totals on a daily basis over a week or two period, changing from as high as 1000 over your calculated baseline to dropping as low as 1000 below, with different amounts in-between.
