Schlesisches Tor & the Spree

Club der Visionäre Bar, Club

Offline map Google map ( 6951 8942; www.clubdervisionaere.com; Am Flutgraben 1; from 2pm Mon-Fri, from noon Sat Sun; Schlesisches Tor, Treptower Park) It’s cold beer, crispy pizza and fine electro at this summertime chill and party playground in an old canal-side boatshed where entry rarely exceeds €3. Park yourself beneath the weeping willows or stake out some turf on the upstairs deck. At weekends party people invade 24/7. Toilets suck.

Watergate Club

Offline map Google map ( 6128 0394; www.water-gate.de; Falckensteinstrasse 49a; from 11pm Fri Sat; Schlesisches Tor) For a short night’s journey into day, check into this high-octane riverside club with two floors, panoramic windows and a floating terrace overlooking the Oberbaumbrücke and Universal Music. Top DJs keep electro-hungry hipsters hot and sweaty till way past sunrise. Long queues, tight door on weekends.

Kater Holzig Club

Offline map Google map (www.katerholzig.de; Michaelkirchstrasse 23; usually Thu-Sat; Heinrich-Heine-Strasse) This wicked kitty sits pretty in its surreal riverside playground set around a graffiti-slathered old soap factory. Parties often run for 72 hours, although there’s also less excessive programming like readings, plays, concerts or film screenings, albeit usually with a wicked edge. Chill alfresco in the upstairs bar, on the wooden deck or by the beach bonfire. Tough door.

Madame Claude Pub

Offline map Google map (Lübbener Strasse 19; from 7pm; Schlesisches Tor) Gravity is literally upended at this David Lynch-ian booze burrow where the furniture dangles from the ceiling and the moulding’s on the floor. Don’t worry, there are still comfy sofas for entertaining your crowd, plus live shows most nights at 9pm, including eXperimondays, Wednesday’s music quiz night and open-mike Sundays. The name honours a famous French prostitute – très apropos given the place’s bordello pedigree.

San Remo Upflamör Pub

Offline map Google map ( 7407 3088; Falckensteinstrasse 46; from 10am; Schlesisches Tor) Gather your posse at this laid-back hang-out before heading a few doors down to the area’s celebrated clubs and concert venues. If chilled clientele, nice waiters, DJ sessions and cold beers won’t get you in the party mood, what will? The odd name, by the way, ironically combines the two ‘glamour towns’ of San Remo, Italy, and tiny Upflamör in southern Germany. Coffee and cake in the daytime.
