Beer Humor

A cowboy walks into a bar and orders a beer. His hat is made of black wrapping paper. So are his shirt, vest, chaps, and boots.

Pretty soon, the town sheriff arrives and arrests the cowboy.

For rustling.

Inspiration

Westward Ho!

One of the most important periods in American (and beer) history spanned, roughly, the years 1820 through 1895. The time was equal parts geographical reality and philosophical stance. Historians have given it many names (the Age of Expansion, Pioneer Days, etc.) but the most pleasing and accurate is, in my opinion, the Wild West.

The American West was hard, dangerous country, especially for citified ex-Europeans who knew no more about prairie farming than they did differential calculus. Lives weren’t lived so much as eked out. Death came quickly and without warning. It was not so much the Land of the Brave, as the Land of the Wary and the Lucky. If you didn’t die at the hands of the Indians whose land you took without asking, you could earn your eternal dirt-nap a thousand other ways. One bad early frost and the whole family starved by February, and when you settled fifty miles from the nearest human outpost a simple tooth infection could leave you singing First Tenor in the celestial choir.
